It’s been fun!

That’s it! We covered all four aspects of emotional intelligence over the past four weeks.

Check out the archives for the past five editions of our EQ series. Also, stay tuned for a free PDF guide covering all four parts of EQ and the practice exercises from each week.

Now, it’s time to do a quick recap, give you some ideas to think about, and share resources for deeper exploration!

The four parts of EQ:

Remember, EQ is broken down into four parts. The best place to start is with self-awareness and self-management. Understanding your own emotions and responding to them appropriately is the foundation you use to build better relationships!

  • Self-Awareness: The ability to accurately identify and understand your mood, emotions, and triggers.

  • Self-Management: The ability to use your self-awareness and adjust your behaviors and actions due to your self-awareness. This one is all about controlling your emotions (i.e., not wearing your emotions on your sleeve when it’s inappropriate).

  • Social Awareness: The ability to understand the emotions of others and what they’re feeling in a particular moment.

  • Relationship Management: The ability to successfully build and maintain relationships using the other three EQ skillsets.

You can check out the archives for specific practice exercises. You can also check out these resources below:

  2. Emotional Intelligence 2.0 by Dr. Travis Bradberry and Dr. Jean Greaves.

That’s it for EQ, or what will become the most sought-after leadership skill over the next decade. Keep an eye out for more EQ content throughout the upcoming weeks.

Next week, we’re diving into a Leadership Mindset, and we’ll be highlighting some key resources you can use to sharpen your leadership mindset.
